Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be artistic?
Not at all.
Fern & Fable workshops are designed for complete beginners as well as experienced makers. I'll guide you through each step in a relaxed, encouraging environment where creativity is about the experience—not perfection.
If you can enjoy an evening of conversation, curiosity, and making something with your own hands, you'll fit right in.
What is included?
Every workshop includes everything you'll need to complete your project, including all supplies, tools, and step-by-step instruction.
Many projects also include specialty display pieces such as wooden stands or bases where appropriate.
Studio Night workshops also include light refreshments so you can simply arrive, settle in, and enjoy the experience.
What should I bring?
Just yourself!
You may wish to bring reading glasses if you use them for close-up work, but everything else is provided.
Wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting a tiny bit of paint or glue on—although we do our best to keep things tidy.
I've never come to something like this by myself...
You're in wonderful company.
Many Fern & Fable guests attend on their own, and that's one of the things I love most. By the end of the evening, strangers often leave feeling like old friends.
The atmosphere is intentionally welcoming, relaxed, and conversation-friendly.
How many people attend?
Home Studio Nights are intentionally intimate, with just 8 guests.
This keeps the evening personal, allows plenty of individual guidance, and creates the cozy atmosphere Fern & Fable is known for.
Workshops held at community venues may have slightly larger groups depending on the location.
Where are Studio Nights held?
Studio Nights take place in my cozy home studio in the Glenmore area of Kelowna.
To respect everyone's privacy, the exact address is shared only with registered guests a few days before the workshop, along with parking instructions and arrival details.
What time should I arrive?
Please plan to arrive about 10–15 minutes before the workshop begins.
This gives everyone time to settle in, enjoy a refreshment, meet fellow guests, and begin on time together.
What if I need to cancel?
Workshop registrations are non-refundable because materials are purchased specifically for each guest.
If you let me know at least 7 days before your workshop, I'm happy to transfer your registration to another Fern & Fable workshop within the next 12 months (subject to availability).
If you're unable to attend at the last minute, you're always welcome to send a friend in your place—just let me know their name before the workshop.
If Fern & Fable ever needs to cancel a workshop, you'll receive either a full refund or the option to transfer your registration.
What happens if there aren't enough registrations?
Occasionally a workshop may be postponed if minimum registration isn't reached.
If that happens, you'll be contacted as soon as possible and offered the choice of transferring to another date or receiving a full refund.
Are workshops for adults only?
Unless otherwise noted, Fern & Fable workshops are designed for adults (18+).
Will there be food?
Studio Nights include light refreshments.
For workshops hosted at breweries, wineries, cafés, bookstores, or other venues, food and beverages are available for purchase directly from the venue unless otherwise noted on the event listing.
Is the studio accessible?
The home studio is located on the 4th floor of a condo building and is accessible by elevator. Handicap parking is available directly in front the building as well as a ramp to the building entrance. If you have accessibility questions or require accommodations, please contact me before registering. I'll always do my best to help.
What about allergies or sensitivities?
Some workshops may include dried botanicals, wood products, paint, adhesives, or fragrance from seasonal greenery.
Light refreshments may also contain common allergens.
If you have allergies or sensitivities, please let me know before your workshop so I can do my best to accommodate you.
Are there pets in the home?
Yes.
There are very friendly cats who share my home, although they are kept separate from the workshop space during Studio Nights.
If you have severe cat allergies, please keep this in mind before registering.
Can I take photos?
Absolutely!
You're welcome to photograph your project and share your experience on social media.
I occasionally take photos during workshops for the Fern & Fable website and social media. If you'd rather not appear in any photographs, simply let me know when you arrive—your comfort always comes first.
Is this really about making art?
It's about something even bigger.
Fern & Fable was created to offer women a place to slow down, create with their hands, share meaningful conversation, and leave feeling just a little lighter than when they arrived.
The project you take home is lovely.
The feeling you leave with is the real reason we're here.
Still have a question?
I'd love to help. Feel free to reach out before registering—I'm always happy to answer questions and help you choose the workshop that's right for you.
